Your weekly Update of Random!
It's my weekend! Finally! And a TWO DAY weekend! I'm back to 6 days next week again, but still only 47 hours. And I have parade 3 days this week - one Spectro and two day PAC. And I have morning trackwalker shifts all next weekend, which should be interesting... I haven't walked track since I trained. I hope I can remember where everything is. :P Yesterday was MK's Gay Day, which ROCKED. It's amazing - the folks in the redshirts were so wonderful. They're friendly, fun, can listen and follow directions, and don't whine to us about everything. Someone at Splash put it best: we were treated like HUMANS. So to everyone who attended Gay Day: THANK YOU! You guys rock. I just wish I could have seen the 1pm show insanity at Bears - I hear it's hilarious. XD (The line about that time stretched to the Haunted Mansion. For the COUNTRY BEARS.)

Went to DAK on Monday! I wandered for awhile, and stopped to see [info]princeali_m_fan at work. (I'll eat cake next time, I swear! XD) And [info]salukfan happened to be there, too, so I hung out with them for a bit and we watched the parade. Tried to go see Nemo, but got in, sat down... and then they cancelled the show. Doh! So I went on Everest, front row. Not bad, but it was raining and that rain HURT at high speeds! Saw Festival of the Lion King (that show is always sheer awesome), did Maharajah Jungle Trek (Southeast Asian mammals! <3), saw the baby siamang and baby white cheek, did Kilimanjaro. Lots of fun! Pics up here.

Then... Pirate and Princess Party on Wednesday night!! WHEE! OMG, it was SO much fun. I worked til 5:45, then moved my car and changed into costume - Andalasia Giselle!. I gotta say, if you wanna be an attention whore, be an adult wearing a costume to a Pirate and Princess Party. XD I wandered for a bit, visited the Splash folks, then met up with [info]salukfan! We wandered for awhile and took pics, then met up with [info]princeali_m_fan and lots of other folks. Did Pirates ("We want Sparrow!"), watched the parade (I got some ROCKIN' pics of that parade at twilight), then went to Fantasyland and got pics with the princes/princesses in their Dream Along With Mickey costumes. Eventually, our group dwindled to me, [info]princeali_m_fan, [info]salukfan, and [info]aratelinwen. We watched Magic, Music, and Mayhem, then wandered over to see the Aladdin show (and the most AWESOME Aladdin ever). We went to see Jack Sparrow who, by that time, only had a half hour wait. Mmmm, Jack! XD We did Pirates again, and laughed at the Jack Sparrow "Yip-Yip" cookies in the gift shop. And then had insanity staying in character on the whole ferry ride back to the parking lot. XD I was SO tired the next day, but it was totally worth it. All the night's pictures here! FOR NARNIA! XDDD

Of course, I picked up Lego Indiana Jones last week! Been playing it like crazy, and have finished Raiders of the Lost Ark and most of Temple of Doom so far. Initial impression? Not bad, but it's no "Lego Star Wars," either. In bullet points...

The Good:
-The cut scenes. Just like Lego Star Wars, they're full of LOLarity. I think my favorite is still Indy coming face-to-face with Belloq for the first time at the start of the Raiders.
-Willie's inherent talent: her scream shatters glass. At least she's USEFUL in the game! ;)
-Lego Star Wars cameos!

The Bad:
-Characters generally have to pick up objects they need, rather than inherently having them. Some characters do automatically have certain items, but most things you need, you must find. Rather a pain. But the real headdesk-er is that Indy does not automatically have a pistol! He ALWAYS had oen in the movies, so why not in the game?
-Some RANDOM scenes. Can someone please tell me where in Raiders of the Lost Ark Indy fought a giant snake/lizard thingy?!
-Marion can't pick up a frying pan in Cairo and smack someone with it? I feel gypped.
-When starting a level, you can't skip past the irritating and useless "red line as the plane flies" intro. At least with Lego Star Wars, you could skip past the scrolling intros by hitting the + button.
-Too easy to get True Adventurer! The only level I haven't hit it on the first try was the Temple of Kali because I was so annoyed by that level that I chose to rush through it instead. With Lego Star Wars, hitting True Jedi was an actual challenge. Here, I've generally got it within about 5 minutes of starting a level.

The Ugly:
-Game length. 4 hours in, and I'm already well over 30% done. This is a short one, folks.
-One of the fun things about Lego Star Wars was that you could often figure out how to beat a boss by thinking back to what happened in the movie. It was a fun parallel to the story. Not so with Lego Indy. In fact, I only figured out how to beat the German Mechanic by accident.

The Bottom Line:
It's fun. It's addicting. And on the grand scale of video games, it's pretty good. But having seen what they did with the Lego Star Wars games, this one feels like a bit of a letdown.

And in the random news:

Publix's Buy One Get One is WIN. Easy Mac AND Thomas bagels on that sale? I totally stocked up.

Andrew Stanton + John Carter of Mars = EPIC WIN.

Got my yellow ID this week! Wiiiiiiin!

Still trying to get back into the habit of drawing daily. I'd like to beef up my portfolio a bit and maybe start taking commissions here and there. I'm bout halfway done coloring the Indy drawing, and have an idea for a Legend of Mythica piece.

Oh wow, you ARE Giselle!!! Those photos came out beautifully!! Also loved the ones of the castle in all the gorgeous colors :oD

And YAY for John Carter of Mars -- awesome!!
Kirsten: WDW - Remember the Magic[info]xfkirsten on June 9th, 2008 04:37 pm (UTC)
Thank you! XD I love the castle lighting! I wish they'd get some of the LED projection lighting, though, like Disneyland uses in Remember: Dreams Come True (like this).
Ellen: ONE SONG![info]ariellen on June 9th, 2008 02:13 am (UTC)
Gay Days = <3 The Guests were really, really nice in Epcot, too. :D

You will need to return to DAK, because you need to experience Nemo and the utter awesomesauceness that is Everest without painful rain. XD

Gaaaah, I wanna go back to P&P and see the Aladdin show when ALADDIN is there. (I don't know who this impostor was when I went....) D: Why are there not more summer shows this year?!

Yay Wii games and yellow IDs and art.

And I have only gotten to scratch the surface of your pictures and scan VERY quickly, but OMG LOVE. Jack Sparrow & Giselle? Awesome.
Kirsten: WDW - Remember the Magic[info]xfkirsten on June 9th, 2008 04:41 pm (UTC)
We were laughing, because the only problem guests we had on Saturday were the REGULAR guests! :P

I really need to see Nemo! I LOVE the soundtrack! (I wish I were a musical actress just so I could play Dory :P)

I'm not sure if Shi got video, but this Aladdin is AWESOME. He sounds like him, acts like him, the voice, everything. :D

...crack!OTP? XD ("Rum? Oooh, that sounds yummy!")
Ellen[info]ariellen on June 9th, 2008 06:58 pm (UTC)
I am half-tempted to go on a ridiculous fake!rant about the use of the word 'regular' there and pretending to be scandalized at how un-PC that is, but no amusing one-liners come to mind, so I won't. Instead, I'll listen to some Avenue Q and agree that we've gone PC-crazy as a world, and I don't think it's for the better. :P

YES YOU NEED TO SEE NEMO. (I have been singing "We Sing Together" a lot lately since I saw the end of the movie on ABC on Saturday night. So much love for that movie, and the show is just... I'd be SHOCKED if you didn't love it. I was VERY skeptical of the idea and was blown away.)

Oh, I'm veeeeeery familiar with the awesomness that is Aladdin. I've only met him twice-ish, around the end of my program, but then I have Shi and Samantha on my f-list, so I have since heard all SORTS of tales of his supreme awesomeness.

...OMG YES. ("Believe me, love, 'yummy' doesn't begin to give a sense of it. I don't recall saying that I'd share my bounty of rum, but I'm sure a bonny lass like you might be able to persuade me otherwise, savvy?")
Kirsten[info]xfkirsten on June 9th, 2008 07:17 pm (UTC)
I mean regular in the sense of not there for an organized event. :P

I've seen clips here and there on TV, and loved what I saw!

*bows to the awesome*

I think that's my favorite new crack pairing. Can you imagine the conversations they'd have? XD

(Woo! Massive thunderstorm going on now! I love just sitting inside and listening to it. I <3 Orlando.)
Ellen: Dork[info]ariellen on June 9th, 2008 07:36 pm (UTC)
I figured as much; I'm just being strange. XD

Jack's got enough back hair to tie together a sea turtle raft; maybe Giselle will find that a turn on! I can see her intrigued with the tattoos, too, and thinking the beading and random knickknacks in his hair are just "lovely."

(THUNDERSTORMS! <3 Inside looking out is the best way to enjoy them, though!)
Kirsten[info]xfkirsten on June 13th, 2008 10:18 pm (UTC)
You? Strange? Naaaaah. :P

...dude, don't give me ideas. Picturing that in my head is AWESOME. She's quasi-naive and fascinated by his tattoos, and he's using that to hit on her... XD

(We've had one every day this week!)
Ellen[info]ariellen on June 13th, 2008 10:51 pm (UTC)
And just wait one minute, what's that supposed to mean, huh? Huh? XDD *assumes "angry Donald Duck" pose*

...and she's still not totally sure of this "flirting" thing, but she's amused that he keeps calling her "bonny lass." I apologize exactly none for giving you ideas, because this is an awesome crack pairing. The possibilities, if not the rum, are endless!
Kirsten: Enchanted - Booze[info]xfkirsten on June 13th, 2008 11:37 pm (UTC)
OMG DON'T MAKE ME DRAW. XDDDD (Crack!art for crack!fic? XD)
Ellen: Princess Morgan[info]ariellen on June 14th, 2008 04:13 am (UTC)
OMG *GRABS STICK* POKE POKE POKE POKE POKE!

...if I wrote crack fic to your crack art, could I beg and plead for this one pic from non crack fic that won't get out of my freaking head? XDDDD
Kirsten: Enchanted - How Does She Know[info]xfkirsten on June 15th, 2008 01:02 am (UTC)
TEH STICK, IT POKES!

Of course you can! XDDD
Ellen: I knew it was you[info]ariellen on June 15th, 2008 02:17 am (UTC)
Bwahahaha....

Oooh, exciting... Well, maybe when I get to Florida I can show you the craptacular version that I tried to transfer from my head to the page except that I'm not a good enough artist, so I was only trying with the thought that maybe it could help me explain to someone with more skills than I have. :D (It's Giselle, Morgan and Robert sitting on the couch together in their pajamas the morning after the ball... Morgan is sitting on Giselle's lap with her arms around her, looking back at Robert, who has one arm around Morgan and the other around Giselle's shoulders. Both adults are looking down at Morgan. It just WILL NOT GO AWAY FROM MY HEAD)
Sutter Cane: metal[info]venger on June 9th, 2008 02:16 am (UTC)
Well now, someone certainly looks fantastic in that dress! ;)

I also second the lameness of Marion not being able to use a frying pan.
Kirsten: Marion - Frying Pan Bitch[info]xfkirsten on June 9th, 2008 04:42 pm (UTC)
Thank you! ;)

That was one of the best bits in the movie! At least the Nazi monkey is there, though. :P
Often Imitated, But Never Duplicated: Sup[info]princeali_m_fan on June 9th, 2008 02:27 am (UTC)
YES YOU WILL EAT CAKE. YOU CAN'T LEAVE UNTIL YOU DO >:(

Gay days are the best. I get a million "Aladdin is sooo hot" comments when they see my watch XDDD

Alaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaddin <3

Yip-yip! XD
Kirsten: Aladdin - Dragonslayer[info]xfkirsten on June 9th, 2008 04:42 pm (UTC)
OH NOES, NOT THE CAKE!11!!!!11

They know who's hot! ;)

YIP YIP!
Samantha: Hug[info]salukfan on June 9th, 2008 05:44 am (UTC)
I loved the people at Gay Days. So sweet and happy to be there. <3

I love the pictures, especially the one Ellen mentioned with you and Jack.

And yessss, Aladdin does win at life. <3 <3 <3 <3
Kirsten[info]xfkirsten on June 9th, 2008 04:44 pm (UTC)
A couple of our Splash CMs came through with the red shirts, too. :D

I didn't realize the photographer had gotten shots while I was talking to Jack. WIN! XD
Artemis[info]_artemis_ on June 9th, 2008 07:26 am (UTC)
Those were awesome pictures! And your dress turned out great :)
Kirsten[info]xfkirsten on June 9th, 2008 04:44 pm (UTC)
Thank you very much! :D
Loli[info]chiidesu on June 9th, 2008 09:12 am (UTC)
Omg those Jack sparrow cookies always make me laugh.. I want to buy one so badly just for the sake of its hilarity xD

Also, I wanted to ask about Atmosphere character(these are fursuits, right?) auditions, do you have any tips? There's an audition for them Saturday and I really want to go!! Should I study/practice character movements off of youtube? Should I memorize and perform the Fantasmic Dance for the casting directors?! ;_;

P.S. Where are you getting all these awesome TDR soundtracks?? ;_;
Kirsten: Sorcerer Mickey[info]xfkirsten on June 9th, 2008 04:49 pm (UTC)
Me too. We couldn't stop making "yip yip!" noises like the little Sesame Street characters. :P

You should go! Don't worry about memorizing routines, but watch the dancing style - the dance they'll teach you will be along the same lines (although simple enough to teach in a short time). The best advice I can give anyone is to smile and have fun with it! They don't just want people who can dance, they want people who are really getting into what they do and having fun with it. At my last audition, the people who made it past the initial cut were all the ones with high energy, who were cheery and loved to play along. :)

They're around the internet! Drop me a message, and I'll point you at a couple of good communities. ;)
Miss Manday: hsm tremaines[info]kitty17794 on June 9th, 2008 09:56 am (UTC)
LOL. Isn't P&P fun? You get stopped by people all the time if you're an adult in costume. xD

I suppose this is probably too late to mention, but I'm hanging out with Drizella Tremaine at MK today if you're going to be around there today! ;)
Kirsten: WDW - Remember the Magic[info]xfkirsten on June 9th, 2008 04:51 pm (UTC)
I love it! XD I stopped at Splash early in the evening, and one of the CMs there busted out his cell phone and started getting pictures of me, and my managers were all "...Kirsten?!" XD

Gah! And of course, I slept way late today. DOH!
Freya[info]chobit001 on June 9th, 2008 10:18 pm (UTC)
Giselle at Disneyworld is SOOOO Epic win! You look great!!!!
Kirsten: Enchanted - Giselle Looks Back[info]xfkirsten on June 13th, 2008 10:18 pm (UTC)
Thank you very much!! It was awesome - all the CMs were all "It's Giselle!" XD
Caroline: Ariel[info]dr_weir_uk on June 10th, 2008 03:39 pm (UTC)
I haven't read the spoilers because I want to buy the game, but I didn't bring my PS2 to uni and there's no PC version. :(

The party sounds like it was a blast!
Caroline: Reaper[info]dr_weir_uk on June 11th, 2008 04:01 pm (UTC)
Turns out the shops I asked at lied, there is a PC version and I brought it today! Just have to wait for my dad to send me one of my PS2 consoles so I can play it. :)
Kirsten[info]xfkirsten on June 13th, 2008 10:19 pm (UTC)
YAY! Glad you got it! I'm still hooked on it. :P
servalcat[info]servalcat on June 12th, 2008 08:21 am (UTC)
Well, you looked fantastic as Giselle, just as I knew you would. It's too bad we don't have video of you "staying in character" on the ferry ride back to the parking lot.
Kirsten[info]xfkirsten on June 13th, 2008 10:20 pm (UTC)
Thank ya! It was funny - other people on the ferry were looking at us like we were nuts. XD
servalcat[info]servalcat on June 18th, 2008 03:25 am (UTC)
Well if we can't have a video of xfkirsten!Giselle making small talk with her companions on the ferry, how about a transcript of the conversation between Giselle and Cap'n Jack Sparrow?

While I think I understand the general concept of a "crack pairing", I'd like to know how the phrase originated. Was it what you were smoking when you thought of it, or the fact that it "cracks" everybody up when you mention it?

Amused purrs,

Serval Cat

But, I'm sure you look amazing anyways! :)

I'm not sure - it still works for me! You could try going through the main page (http://xfkirsten.smugmug.com) and clicking "Walt Disney World" and the galleries should be in there. :)

SmugMug Link
Hey, Kirsten, the SmugMug link doesn't work for me, either. I can see the thumbnails on the galleries, but not the galleries themselves. :(

And you might want to update your blog's "about me" since you're currently not a zookeeper...un.....less you count keeping your guests in line. hahahaha. They can be animals at times, I'm sure.
jessicablake[info]jessicablake on July 17th, 2008 10:24 pm (UTC)
Wow, great set design and lighting. The stylish adult costumes were fantastic. I loved every bit of it.
