ZOMG ENCHANTED. GO SEE IT NOW. How much did I love this movie? Enough to want to see it again right freakin' now!
So much to squee about... great acting, great music, great story, great characters... great Disney magic. Period.
Disney magic at it's best!
What is it that's so appealing about Disney? The ability to pull at the heartstrings, to make you laugh, cry, and feel that dreams can come true. And this movie did that all, on a grand scale. From laughing at Prince Edward's antics or Giselle trying to fit into the real world (or rather, not trying to fit in), to crying as Robert and Giselle's hearts are broken, to the joy of true love, this movie did it all. Add in the fantasy world of dragons and evil queens and magic spells, and you have the epitome of the Disney magic.

It's one Disney reference after another! The storybook beginning, the jewels in front of the eyes, the Kiss-the-Girl-esque shot in "That's How You Know," to the simple shot of Giselle's arm falling to the ground and the apple rolling out - the Disney references pour in. And that's not even counting the most obvious ones, like the Wicked Witch, the glass slipper, the poison apple... it's like one giant in-joke!
Traditional animation is back, baby!
OMG, you have no idea how happy that made me! Parts of it seemed oddly rough - Giselle's animation at the beginning felt rather lacking. But I must say, the animators that did Queen Narissa? LOVE. Fantastic job!
So Close...
This scene very nearly made me start bawling. They're so joyous, dancing, the love is amazing, and then they're pulled apart... the pain on Giselle's face while she watched Robert and Nancy dance was so heartbreaking. I just wanted to bawl during this whole scene.
Damsel in distress?
LOVED that twist. It was fantastic to see Robert be the one carried away by the evil dragon, and Giselle having to be the one to take up the sword and go after him. IMHO, though, it would have been more interesting to have that duel drawn out a bit more. She didn't really do much besides take a stab at the dragon's foot - she just kinda stood around and then caught him. I think it would have been more fun to see her really have to duke it out. :D
Even the music had cameos!
LOVED the little Disney music cameos! "Part of Your World" as the waiting room music at Robert's office, "Beauty and the Beast" playing during one of Nathaniel's scenes... but in the credits, it put "Pink Elephants on Parade" in there somewhere. I totally missed that! Where was that? Was that what was playing in the hotel room when Prince Edward was flipping channels? It was so short a moment that my brain didn't really have time to process anything other than the fact that I recognized the tune.
Your princesses, show me them.
Paige O'Hara. Jodi Benson. WHICH ONES WERE THEY? I know they were credited as Angela and Sam respectively, but I couldn't figure out which characters they were. Was Sam the receptionist at Robert's office? Because dude, that would make the fish tank and "Part of Your World" playing in the background about ten billion times funnier.
In which Idina does not sing...
Probably the most curious aspect - casting one of the hottest actresses in musical theater right now, then not giving her a song. Apparently she originally did have a song, but it was scrapped for a sadly logical reason - Nancy is from the Real World, and in the Real World, people don't break out into song. Which begs the question - if there's a sequel, will she sing? :P And as an aside, was I the only one that found her character incredibly grating? I love Idina and all, but her character just irked me. She felt oddly out of place. The only character that really just didn't seem to fit into either world. :/
What's next?
There's been rumors of a sequel, or even multiple sequels. Question is: is that good or bad? Does that ruin the "happily ever after," or make it more interesting by addressing the issue of whether or not "happily ever after" exists? But more importantly, was I the only one wondering what would happen when Giselle found out that lips aren't "the only things that touch"? XD
I'm sure there's a billion other things that I wanted to say here that I'm totally blanking on. I'm sure they'll come up in discussion. But for now, I just want to go see it again! XD
THIS ENTRY BROUGHT TO YOU BY THE CAPS LOCK.
ETA: Good Enchanted fanfics. I need them. Now. XD
ETA2: And OMG, I'm dying to cosplay Giselle, like in the blue dress she wears in "That's How You Know."
ETA3: And if anyone finds good Enchanted model sheets or a "how to draw Disney's Enchanted"-type book, TELL ME. I want to learn how to draw them. XD
