First off, I must give a big "F YOU" to the Seahawks for not showing up to the game today. And especially to Holmgren, for continuing to give Alexander playing time when it's clear that the soft cast interfered with his play. I think we owe that last fumble (and the GAME) to the cast - it got in the way, Alexander fumbled, Arizona recovered and scored, game over. You've really gotta be retarded not to realize from the first series or two that the cast seriously impacted his ability to catch/hold the ball. *headdesk*

Moving on... how do you scare the piss out of a zookeeper?
Radio call: Southeast Asia, anyone?
Us: Go ahead!
Radio call: Uh, we just had a guest report that something is coming out of one of your otters. They said it looks like it's having a baby.
Us: *craps pants*
See, we had a pregnant otter... or one we thought was pregnant. Unfortunately, small-clawed otters are prone to "pseudopregnancies," where their hormones are elevated like a pregnancy, their nipples protrude, and their belly gets big. I believe evolutionarily, it has to do with helping relatives nurse/care for their litters. According to the hormone spikes, our otter was "due" a couple of weeks ago... and since the window of opportunity had passed, we assumed it was a pseudo. So when we got the call, we started freaking out, thinking that she really HAD been pregnant, and now she was out on exhibit giving birth... instead, we got out there and, after careful inspection of the perfectly-normal otters, came to the conclusion that the guests had seen our male, Ralph's, wee-wee and thought it was a baby. Ah, good times! XD (We did bring the otters into holding after that, though, just in case)

So I'm sure many of you have seen the "Pluto attack" video making the rounds this weekend. If not, here it is for your viewing convenience:

As you all know, I know EXACTLY what it's like to be in his shoes. Quite literally. From word going around, apparently the kid kicked Pluto in the nads just before the camera started rolling, and that's what started it all. Now, ANYONE who's worked at Disney knows that Pluto's reaction is completely unacceptable. Completely. I don't give a rip WHAT that kid did - Pluto should not have reacted like that. You get kicked? Sucks to be you - that's part of your job description. You do not chase the kid down - you CALMLY remove yourself from the area. Leave set if you have to. You DO NOT take off after the kid like a bat outta hell.

And moving on to the woman who "pushes" him at the end? BULL. SHIT. Pluto's playing it like an NFL receiver looking for an interference call. Pluto has EXCELLENT balance (it feels no different than moving around like normal), and for her to knock him down would have taken a pretty good shove - and she barely touches him! Take a good look at Pluto's feet - he's backpedaling, and loses his balance on the edge of the curb and falls on his ass... then tries to blame it on the woman who, unfortunately, was reaching towards him at the same moment. BULL. SHIT.

IMHO, Pluto is just pissed off, and taking it out on everyone around him. That's unprofessional in ANY job - let alone a Disney character role! I've been kicked and punched in the face. I've had half a dozen highschoolers pigpile on me with no one around to help me. And yet somehow, even if my greeter didn't see it, I managed to just calmly walk off set and notify the coordinator. You know what? Shit happens. You know that LONG before you ever put on the costume. Hell, half of my interview was the casting rep telling me how much people beat the crap out of you. They don't keep it a secret. You're trained from day one to JUST WALK AWAY. That's all Pluto had to do from the first moment the incident happened. Just get up and walk away. Not chase the kid, not make all the pissed-off, unprofessional gestures. JUST WALK AWAY. I hope to God he was fired, because someone pulling that has NO place as a Disney performer, period.

In happier news, I've been working on some Disney art, like a drawing based on the Share a Dream Come True Parade... I require Disney theme park motivation! :P
/SERIOUS withdrawls

Do, at least you had your zoo excitement for the week :P

omg I saw that video and was just totally floored. I have never seen such a reaction from a cast member and where the hell was his greeter during all of this?

I feel your disney withdrawells. I havent been since june and its killing me. granted you've been without longer but it still sucks. And dude I just missed the casting calls for characters in a christmas fantasy parade. and i coulda done it too since im 17 and a graduating senior. DOH!

Disneyland doesn't have neeearly enough greeters! at WDW, they NEVER would have gotten away with having as few greeters as DL. At WDW, it was one greeter for EACH character, unless it was a pair of characters that went out on set together. (eg Kermit/Piggy, Country Bears, Tweedles, etc.)

Awwww! You'll have to go next year, then! I wish I could have gone out for a DL parade... :(

I am having some Disney withdrawl as well. Hows about Food & Wine Fest next month? I still have a few FT friends down there, so its not like were paying full price for anything.....lemmie know if youre interested because mid-October is a GREAT time to go to Walt Disney World!
Oh yeah, and there is a shuttle launch in October. So it would be double win.
Kirsten[info]xfkirsten on September 24th, 2007 03:22 am (UTC)
Dude, I wish! I'm still frantically trying to save for Tokyo. :P
[info]dack48 on September 24th, 2007 03:30 am (UTC)
You can come down to WDW while saving for Tokyo :-p you know how easy it is to do WDW on a budget...when you know the right CM's.....hehe
Kirsten[info]xfkirsten on September 24th, 2007 03:38 am (UTC)
Yes, but not when you have extremely limited vacation time, and would have to find a flight from the farthest corner of the country. :P
[info]dack48 on September 24th, 2007 03:55 am (UTC)
I just found one for you for about $300. w00t. I win.
Kirsten[info]xfkirsten on September 24th, 2007 04:00 am (UTC)
Dude, Even that is too much to swing right now. I don't think you have any idea how much Tokyo is going to cost me. :P

omg @ Pluto video. I bet that kid can't ever watch any Pluto cartoons again without freaking out (), still, of course Pluto's reaction was absolutely inacceptable, and then I was wondering "wtf...why is he falling down? Drama queen?"
Kirsten[info]xfkirsten on September 24th, 2007 03:22 am (UTC)
I read back a ways on the comments, and the guy who was Pluto made a bitchy post... OMG, total drama queen!!! :P

Speaking of Wee-wees being mistaken for babies...

Whale boner =/= baby, folks.

Poor trainer had to explain that.
Kirsten: Liz - O RLY[info]xfkirsten on September 24th, 2007 03:23 am (UTC)
*snicker* It doesn't even look CLOSE! What do those people think a baby whale looks like?! :P
Sally[info]mizz_magenta on September 18th, 2007 12:53 am (UTC)
I'm almost afraid to ask, but how do you confuse piss and a baby otter? :S

Dude, so true! In any job dealing with the public you have not let your anger take over, especially where children and youths are involved. If you can't do that then you're in the wrong job. As an aside, I had no idea characters got beaten on so much!
Kirsten: Mickey - Loser[info]xfkirsten on September 24th, 2007 03:35 am (UTC)
Ah, I think you misunderstand my use of the word "wee-wee." ;) In this case, it refers to his peeeeeeenis!!! XD

Oh, characters get totally beaten on! Sometimes it's little kids that don't know better (and the good parents out there at least correct them!)... more often than not, it's teenagers who think they're hot shit if they punch Mickey. :/ Although the guy who punched me in the face was like a 60-year-old man. Go figure! :P
Sally: BSG - Gaius/Six (blue)[info]mizz_magenta on September 25th, 2007 12:46 am (UTC)
LOL! Well now it makes more sense. :P The differences in language will never cease to amuse me, hehe.

DUDE! That guy has some serious issues, lol! What the hell did Mickey ever do to him? :P
Kirsten[info]xfkirsten on September 30th, 2007 03:20 am (UTC)
You Brits and your crazy words! :P

People like to beat up characters. Tis inevitable! At least it makes for good stories.
Often Imitated, But Never Duplicated: Oh noes[info]princeali_m_fan on September 18th, 2007 07:01 am (UTC)
Only for Brazilian Tour Groups can you act like that

:O such a shame!
Kirsten[info]xfkirsten on September 24th, 2007 03:36 am (UTC)
Brazilian tour groups don't NEED to find a character to do that to... they'll do that to any CM. :P
