Oh, man, it felt SO FREAKIN' GOOD to be back at the zoo today. The sun was out, I had coffee... and right off the bat I fed Blackie. She was such a little lady... until she swung around and growled an open-mouthed threat. And then looked at me with a "Bitch! Oh no you di'nt!" look on her face when I gave her the signal to go back into the water. Oh. Yeah. (She went eventually... just sloooowwwwllllyyyy) Mostly did stuff around the food prep kitchen today (thawing fish, breakout, putting together puffin pans). While I was doing breakout, there was an ad on the radio for Atlantis and I totally squeed. I've never heard an Atlantis ad on the radio, especially on a mainstream station like Jack FM. I also spent a long time sitting in the office and reading all the notes since I was last there a month ago. It's nice to see that not a whole lot changes in a month. :D

I've been very productive the last few days, too!

Remember the Elphaba "Defying Gravity" dress I started sewing last summer? I FINISHED IT. FINALLY. It looks fan-freakin'-tastic. I'll have to get a picture of it! Still looking for a really good Elphaba hat, though... and green makeup... and a wig... and a pair of boots... and a broom... XD

Finally sewed my fleece whale blanket tonight! That was an easy one - all I had to do was put the blanket tape on the ends of the fleece sheet - 30 minutes, easy. I can't find a picture of the fabric print online, so I'll have to get a pic of that one, too. It has killer whales! XD

Decided that I still wanna do Marion's Raven Bar costume, 'cause it should be fairly easy... unfortunately, finding a fabric print like that for the shirt is proving to be impossible... *sigh*

Got another application ready to mail, this one for the Texas State Aquarium. I'm basically applying for any opening that I meet the requirements for at this point. Still need to get myself to the pool, though, 'cause I have NO idea what their swim test is like.

I also watched "Borat" last night... and while it was humorous, I was less than impressed. I think it got over-hyped to me. I love offensive jokes, but the movie itself was kinda boring. Hrm. Ah, well. Not sure what's next of my Netflix list. It'll be a surprise.

Oh, and was anyone else in the US really amused by the preview for next week's SG-1, where the announcer called Carter "Amanda"? I thought I was just hearing things, but apparently not. :P

Okay. Rambling post done now.

Yay! Texas State Aquarium! Huzzah!!

Is your JackFM like our EdFM? Like, "all music, no requests... we play what we like" crap? Like, metallica followed by michael jackson??

Kirsten[info]xfkirsten on April 21st, 2007 07:05 am (UTC)
Have you ever been there? I'm curious what the place is like.

Yup! That's exactly what it's like. Love it. :P
Leah[info]ulisesgirl on April 21st, 2007 02:45 pm (UTC)
Nope, I haven't been there... I would like to go though - I've heard good things!

OMG you finished your Elphaba constume! YAY!

Where abouts in Texas is the 'Texas State Aquarium'??
Kirsten[info]xfkirsten on April 21st, 2007 10:33 pm (UTC)
Well, I finished the DRESS at least! :P Took me long enough, eh? :P

It's in Corpus Christi, over on the coast!

Can't wait to see your Elphie!dress :D The Grimmerie has a list of the exact make-up they use, icluding how the whole greenifying process.
Kirsten: Wicked - Defy Gravity[info]xfkirsten on April 21st, 2007 10:34 pm (UTC)
Yeah, I have the Grimmerie and I've actually looked at it, but the MAC makeup they use is a) really expensive and b) hard to find these days, since all the Wicked fans want it. :( So I think I'm going to have to find an alternative.
Sally: Wicked - fiyero/elphie[info]mizz_magenta on April 22nd, 2007 01:17 pm (UTC)
eBay! :D :P
Kirsten: Wicked - Defy Gravity[info]xfkirsten on April 27th, 2007 11:22 pm (UTC)
It still runs nearly $50/cake on eBay. :( I don't know enough about makeup to know how far that'll go, but I'd need to do face/neck/hands.

(I know, I'm slow at replying to stuff - still catching up! ;))
Sally[info]mizz_magenta on April 27th, 2007 11:32 pm (UTC)
Lol!

Aw, that sucks. Do you know any smackheads that you could get to rob it and then pay them a knockdown price for it? :P

No, but I think I need to start meeting people. ;)

[info]princeali_m_fan beat me to it... but DAMN, that music is catchy...
Lemondrop[info]lemondrop29 on April 21st, 2007 04:18 pm (UTC)
Yeah, I saw that posting. Good luck! What an incredible summer job...
Kirsten[info]xfkirsten on April 21st, 2007 10:36 pm (UTC)
Thanks! I've got my fingers crossed. I'm really just not sure what to expect if I get called for a swim test. I'm kinda just guessing based on other facilities' tests (which still vary a lot in scale).
Lemondrop[info]lemondrop29 on April 21st, 2007 10:43 pm (UTC)
Makes training hard, if you don't know what you're training for... ahh well. I'd prob practice the toughest swim test, so you're prepared for anything.

I'm jealous you can even apply;)

Oh the day I'll be done school.

Kirsten[info]xfkirsten on April 21st, 2007 10:50 pm (UTC)
That's pretty much what I figure, too. Time to work on those underwater swims...
sg_lab[info]sg_lab on April 21st, 2007 04:48 pm (UTC)
When the announcer said Amanda instead of Sam or Carter, I was like uh what? Also reminded me of my mom because she often refers to Carter as Amanda when she's not referring to her as Samantha. :D
Kirsten[info]xfkirsten on April 21st, 2007 10:37 pm (UTC)
LOL! I was like, "...did they just say Amanda?!" I thought I was hearing things, but when I saw someone start a thread about it on GW, I realized it was what they said. But as someone at GW pointed out, it's hard to believe that got through the entire editing process unnoticed - leading to the idea that maybe they did it on purpose, to get people talking about it and getting them more exposure.

...then again, one of the old SG-1 novels calls her "Amanda Carter" for the entire book, too...
sg_lab[info]sg_lab on April 21st, 2007 10:54 pm (UTC)

Really? 0_o How hard could it be to get her name right in a novel? Shakes head.
Kirsten[info]xfkirsten on April 21st, 2007 11:02 pm (UTC)
It was either "The First Amendment" or "The Morpheus Project" - I can't remember which. But I read it back when I first became a fan, and I was dumbfounded that me, a new fan, knew what the author of an official novel didn't. :P
sg_lab[info]sg_lab on April 21st, 2007 11:08 pm (UTC)
I remember now yesterday or the day before someone on my flist commented that in a CSI: Miami novel the author said a main character's wife died one way, but in the show she actually had died in the attacks on 9/11.
Kirsten[info]xfkirsten on April 21st, 2007 11:09 pm (UTC)
*headdesk* I hate it when a show's official material can't even get it right. There should be, like, an exam you have to take before you can write those things.

GO SEE THE MUSICAL. IT'S COOOOOL.
Kirsten[info]xfkirsten on April 21st, 2007 10:39 pm (UTC)
I NEED TO SEE IT. That music is so freakin' catchy. I want to be Dory. Someday, I will be Dory.

"I go to school?!?"
"Not really."

Although I'm kinda sad, 'cause I hearted Tarzan Rocks a lot, too, and Nemo replaced it. :(
