I had a bitchy!day today at work. It was one of those days where I have to literally bite back snarkastic replies to everything. Actual examples of things that popped into my head in response to customer comments: "No, that's not the real price. We put fake price tags on there just to confuse you." "When you hang up your damn cell phone and acknowledge me, then I will ring up your purchases." "How about next time you tell me you don't want a bag before I spend five minutes sticking all your books in the bag?" Ah, how I wish I could actually say what I'm thinking... On the bright side, one of our dirty, lecherous old guy customers didn't give me any dirty, lecherous comments today. I think the "talk to me and you die" vibe I was giving off saved me. :P

In need of a good fantasy, I watched Eragon tonight. Okay, so good didn't quite fit the bill. Some of the dialogue was so bad that I suppose it paid appropriate homage to the horrid dialogue in Paolini's original novel. And ooooh, the Eragon/Arya HURTS MY BRAIN. Seriously. Crap. And the kid playing Eragon? His acting was atrocious. But Saphira was fantastic (baby Saphira? CUTEST THING EVAR), beautifully animated. And Rachel Weisz did an amazing job voicing her. Jeremy Irons was a perfect Brom. That man is so sexy, in an old guy way. I think it's the voice. And the surprise for me was the guy playing Murtagh - I really liked him. The cinematography was gorgeous. I'm such a sucker for those grand, sweeping shots along the mountains. Story-wise, I was sad to see some stuff from the original novel go (no mention was even made of Katrena, and she kinda becomes a driving force in Eldest!)... and left wondering why Angela seemed like a skank, and Sloan wasn't really a jerk at all. And where were the dwarves? Also kind of an important part of the story. Bottom line: like the novel, it's very entertaining, but horribly written. Watch it for the fun and the great effects, but I wouldn't expect greatness.

But YAY! Got a call back from the zoo yesterday, and I'm going to be volunteering at Rocky Shores one morning a week! It'll be so nice to get back into the swing of it, and see my whale again! :D

Buh, and am I the only one that didn't know The X-Files was originally supposed to end with this scene of Bush being in on the conspiracy? As amused as I am, I like the Mulder/Scully lovefest better. :P

Wow, is that alternate ending real??? Man, I wish they left that in... I find it quite amusing. hehe Or depressing...

So much I could say about Eragon, I'll just wait till we can discuss it at work. Except:

no mention was even made of Katrena

DELETED SCENES! :P They cut her out entirely, I have no idea why... but they obviously made plenty of dumb mistakes with it.

Yeah! It is! I wondered about that too, and went and looked at the season nine DVD specs. It's one of the special features (deleted scene) on the last disc in the original S9 set (it's not on the new slimset DVDs). I think it would have been much more entertaining if they'd left it in. Oooh, the political jokes that could have been made from that! :P

Ah! I didn't check out the deleted scenes... not sure if they're on the first disc? Netflix only sends one disc, so anything that's on a second I don't get to see.

*raises hand* I didn't know it either... though I don't really like it. mulder/scully all the way baby.

Mulder and Scully deserve to get the love. ;)
Sapph[info]sapphs on April 16th, 2007 09:34 am (UTC)
OMG noooooooo!!! I'm so glad they didn't go with that ending. Just...no.

Teehee!! Pissed!Kirsten :P But ITA about Eragorn unfortunately. Jeremy Irons = love, Saphira = love scenery = love, but story = not!love.

Yes I really liked Murtagh as well. He was damn ho...er, cool? ;):P

But the thing that most distracted me? ZOMG ICON!LOVE!
Kirsten: RDU - Sail[info]xfkirsten on April 17th, 2007 04:42 am (UTC)
I love Bush-bashing as much as anyone, but it just wouldn't have worked as well as Mulder and Scully snuggling. ;)

Murtagh was REALLY hot. Angsty and hot. :P

ICON! Squee! Rescuers Down Under = one of Kirsten's favorite Disney movies ever. Marahute is giant golden eagle love.

Ah, the joys of working in a customer heavy enviroment. ;)

Ooh, never seen the movie but I really like the name Saphira. Good name for a little girl... or a cat. *bg*

Aw, that's awesome! Nice one!! :D

Heh, I hadn't seen that before. Yeah, I'll take Mulder and Scully walking into the sunset holding hands over Bush anyday. :P I found this clip through watching that one and damn, now I want to watch like All The Eps Ever Made again.
Kirsten[info]xfkirsten on April 17th, 2007 04:44 am (UTC)
Saphira is a gorgeous name, and she is a gorgeous dragon! :D

LMAO!! TEQUILA!!! *does the PeeWee dance*

Haha I totally was having one of those days the day I *did* open my big mouth and tell the Starbucks customer that if they didn't think I was making the drink properly, even though I was the employee, she could come back behind the bar and make her own fucking coffee.

Then she had the nerve to proclaim that I was in a bad mood.

Nah...u think?

That was went I cracked it,

Luckily my Eco managers *congratulated* me and promoted me to full time LOL.

I have them occasionally. Once I hit my breaking point, I snap in spectacular fashion. :P Thankfully, Half Price Books is very flexible as far as helping you get away from the registers if you really need to get away from the people. :P

Oh God, I had one of those days, too XD

"Excuse me, are you guys closed?"
"No, we just put the chairs up and clear everyone out of here because we want to make sure the room is clean just for you! :D"

Buuuut, I couldn't say that :P

Person 1: Excuse me, where are the straws?
Me: We don't have straws in Animal Kingdom for the safety of our animals.
Person 1: Oh, ok!
Person 2 (WHO WAS BEHIND PERSON 1): Where can I get some straws?
Me: >_

People have NO LISTENING SKILLS. There should be a quiz of some sort. If they fail, they don't get their food.

OR READING SKILLS. Signs? What signs? "Where's Camp Minnie-Mickey?" READ YOUR MAP, DAMMIT.

Yay! I'm not the only one that didn't like that movie!
Kirsten[info]xfkirsten on April 17th, 2007 04:50 am (UTC)
I'm conflicted... it was entertaining, but SO horribly made!
sg_lab[info]sg_lab on April 16th, 2007 03:17 pm (UTC)
OMG, I watched Eragon last night too. :D I haven't read the book, but I remember you commenting on it and mentioning it was practically a ripoff of Star Wars. The whole time I was watching it I could totally see every moment that paralleled it in a very poor way.

And oh yes Saphira was just so adorably cute. She was the best part of the whole movie.
Kirsten[info]xfkirsten on April 17th, 2007 04:52 am (UTC)
It really does! I'd highly recommend reading the book - there's some stuff in the movie that leaves you going "WTF!?" unless you've read the book. Like why the hell Roran randomly decided to move away. And what the point of having Murtagh in the story was. And, you know, the fact that Arya is an elf. They never even hinted at that in the movie.
sg_lab[info]sg_lab on April 17th, 2007 04:18 pm (UTC)
I kept leaving the room through out so I didn't follow it that well. Was Murtagh the guy who just showed up and rescues Eragon at one point? I missed why he was taken prisoner by the group they ended up with.

And Roran's Eragon's cousin, right?

From the end it looks like there's more to come.

I may just check the book out. *Adds to list of books recc'd by kirsten* ;)
Kirsten[info]xfkirsten on April 18th, 2007 04:40 am (UTC)
Yup, Murtagh was the one that rescued Eragon, and turned out to be the son of Morzan (the evil rider that Brom killed). He was taken prisoner because they recognized him as the son of Morzan, and immediately thought he was a spy. :)

Yup, Roran is Eragon's cousin. :)

There's so much left open at the end of this one. That's the problem with making the first movie in a trilogy - if you don't finish it, you leave people hanging...
Leah[info]ulisesgirl on April 16th, 2007 04:00 pm (UTC)
I get way snarky on the phone with people... they call with the DUMBEST questions. People just assume that "student affairs" is like some all encompassing magical place where we know every single answer ever... And they get way pissy when you tell them they need to call someone else...
Kirsten[info]xfkirsten on April 17th, 2007 04:52 am (UTC)
You should start making up answers. :P
My virtual identity: Rodney McKay[info]arlessiar on April 16th, 2007 04:40 pm (UTC)
I work in a customer service for a little over three months now, and boy, if there's one thing I've learnt, then that there are many, many really dumb people walking around on this earth...

They ask stupid questions, believe that we know every answer to every problem, behave like idiots, complain about nothing and nothing again, can't find, read or understand what's written down right in front of them, and say weird sentences like "I'd like to have a question" instead of "I have a question/I'd like to have an answer for...", because they're too stupid to build a sentence with the correct polite form. :S

Most of the time I manage to stay calm and polite, but sometimes I get so annoyed that it's very hard not to snap or scream at a customer. I know Rodney McKay wouldn't have that problem and would happily snark away - bad influence! *g*
Kirsten: Liz - Oh Noes[info]xfkirsten on April 17th, 2007 04:53 am (UTC)
Oh, yes. The dumb people keep multiplying, too. I've worked in retail on and off since I was in high school, and I'm constantly amazed at the fact that these people can survive well enough to reproduce. *pours chlorine in the gene pool* :P
toasteronfire: MW facepalm[info]toasteronfire on April 16th, 2007 05:38 pm (UTC)
Oh, customer service jobs SUCK. Having actively participated in such over the course of high school and college, I now go out of my way to be polite to the people behind the counter. Because I was there too and I know how an ass can ruin your day.
Kirsten: Liz - Oh Noes[info]xfkirsten on April 17th, 2007 04:54 am (UTC)
I do, too. I often wonder how many of the asshats I run into are that way because they've never been behind a counter... or have, and are getting revenge, which is even worse.

YAY! Work rant. I'm gonna have one of those weeks too. I can feel it in the water.

Dude Pern PWNS Eragon! If they can make Eragon a movie WHY NOT THE PERN BOOKS?!?!?!?!?! Which, btw I'm rereading.
Kirsten[info]xfkirsten on April 18th, 2007 04:41 am (UTC)
Isn't it a wonderful feeling? /sarcasm

THEY NEED A PERN MOVIE. SO much better-written than Eragon. And ooooh, the possibilities are endless... I need to reread the Pern books. It's been aaages.
Sunny: SN El Perro Fumundo![info]sunny_serenity on April 18th, 2007 11:52 pm (UTC)
LOL It was in full swing last nite... thankfully, not that many customers.

Word. 'cept as I'm re-reading it some of the dialogue is kinda archaic. But I guess that's the point, no? Still an awesome read.
