Hi from Vancouver! :D
It's been a couple of crazy days... but so much fun!
Before you ask, no, I did not have a con ticket, and so cannot rightfully give my take on what was said at the panels/luncheons/whatever, because I did not attend them. :P I spent Saturday night with the Aussie Posse! It was SO much fun to finally hang out with these people. Sometimes a bit too much fun. ;) They did, however, have to share my attention with the hotel room's toilet, as I maybe had one too many. Whoops! Much hilarity was had, and hangoverness ensued.
This morning (yesterday morning, now! :P) we all got up bright and early (ugh!) to go catch the screening of A Dog's Breakfast downtown. Oh, lordy, that movie was HILARIOUS. We missed the first 15-20 minutes 'cause we were running late (who'da thunk that drinking a lot and then getting up early was a bad idea?), but everything we saw was fantastic. It is such a characteristically "David Hewlett" type of movie. :P I really can't say much without spoiling it, but I highly recommend it, if you can get a screening nearby. David Hewlett, Jane Loughman, and John Lenic (I think?) came up after the film to answer a few audience questions. Nothing truly notable here, although he did say that the "Starcrossed" pilot script has been received and enjoyed by the NBC-Universal staff. But it was just fun to see David up there talking about his film (and, as always, getting in a jab at Paul McGillion) with such passion. Oh... and did I mention Mars was there? Eeeeee! Such a cute dog! He flopped over and just relaxed on the stage during the talk.
Wandered around downtown for awhile and headed back to the hotel in the afternoon. While the Aussies did convention-y stuff, we hung out around the lobby, or waited in line with them in the open areas. Oh, and managed to see the stars for free. :P First sighting? OMFG TORRI. We were waiting by the elevator to go down to the lobby, and she came up with one of the volunteers. WOO! What ensued was one of many utter asshat!volunteers who tried to push in front of us for the elevator WE summoned and were standing in front of. Literally, he jumped in front of us and held out his arms so we couldn't go in, intending to make the elevator for Torri's use only. Meanwhile, Torri is trying to say hi to people, asshat!volunteer is yelling at her to leave, and he's blocking our elevator because apparently he needed it more than we did. But no, he didn't - we were going down, they wanted to go up... and the elevator that had arrived was going down. Realizing his mistake, he backs away, and dashes for another elevator opening up, pulling Torri along with him. By the time he's out of the way, we completely missed the elevator and have to push the button and wait again. And Torri is gone. Did I mention the volunteer was an asshat?
So we got down to the lobby and hung out for awhile while photos and such were going on... and in walked Rachel Luttrell! She waved and said hi to all of us sitting around, and we waved happily back. She went on her way, and I went back to sleep in the chair.
Awhile later, David DeLuise hurried by. We called out, "Hi, David!" and waved. Mind you, we made no move to even get out of the chairs. Creation!person with him turns bitchy and snaps "David doesn't have time for that!" You know, because us saying "hi" slows him down so drastically. *eyeroll* It's also worth noting here that she tried to be all buddy-buddy with us when she walked by again after escorting us out. *snort* Bitch.
I should mention that, through all of this, Dan Shea has walked by like eleventy billion times, and no one pays him any mind. :P
We also briefly saw two people who played the Furlings in "200." They were short, but really nice. :P
After awhile, we met back up with the Aussies and head out for dinner. We ate it in the room, while waiting for the Torri autograph line to get to their rows. After awhile, we all headed down to check where the line is. I blindly follow the group, and am totally not paying attention to where we stop, and then I realize they're all bending down to look at something. I look down, and there's a little white dog. As I realize who it is, I look up, and indeed, there's Torri again. Being the little chicken I am, I just kinda stand in the back of the group, and bend down to see Sedgie. I say nothing, because I am a chickenshit. :P
We headed back up to the room to wait while they get autographs, and eventually the Aussies called us to come down and get them ('cause you need the room key to get up in the elevator)... so we do. And who's just leaving but... Torri! She was such a sweetheart! After several hours of the convention rush, I am utterly amazed at how friendly she was - she didn't give off the con burn-out feeling at ALL, and was laughing and joking with everyone. I am still a chickenshit and don't have the guts to go up and say hi - I hide in the safety of the Aussie Posse (who gets enough Torri!love that I get it by proxy ;)). I did have the guts to wave and say goodbye when she finally left, though. :P
Much more hanging out in the room after that. We stumble across two episodes of Atlantis on two different channels ("Aurora" on Space, and "The Hive" on Fox)... and I am way too amused by the fact that a Vancouver hotel room is showing not the Vancouver network channels, but the Seattle ones. Yep. Watched Q13 Fox and KIRO 7. In Vancouver.
Seriously - who needs to spend $400 on a con ticket? We spent $40 on alcohol, a few bucks on parking, and $15 on an "A Dog's Breakfast" ticket and made a weekend out of it. That, my friends, is what cons are for. ;)
