I got "killed" for the first time today! *sniff* I feel like I'm really part of the team, now. :P What we call "getting killed" is when one of the polar bears jumps at you from the other side of the bars, basically in what would be a pounce to kill you if they could get to you. Blizzard "killed" me today. I saw it coming, too, and sat back and watched as he crept up and pounced. Thanks, Blizz! I feel loved! :P

I've totally been on a Flipper (the 1995 series) kick this week. I busted out my old tapes and have been watching the few episodes I have. I really need to burn them to DVD, because the tapes are like ten years old and I think they're starting to go bad. I would cry if I lost those. Or they need to hurry up and put it out on DVD (ha, right, when hell freezes over). I need to make screencaps from those eps and make some icons... *nods* Oh, man, and that show had such wonderful 'ship...

And in a random somewhat-related idea, is it sad that I'm giggling over the fact that there's a pic of David Duchovny, Gillian Anderson, Anthony Rapp, and Colleen Flynn (Pam, my fave character from "Flipper"), all together in "Detour"? As if that episode wasn't already awesome enough. It's like Kirsten's fandoms, all smooshing themselves together. :P (I should add here that I always called the tech guy in that episode "the really whiny character that needs to hurry up and get offed." Years later I realized that he was played by Anthony Rapp. Go figure. :P) I should go watch that episode again. There is no such thing as watching The Conversation in the Woods too many times.

OMG, and this is one of the most hilarious videos I've ever seen! (thanks to [info]kasatka for passing along the link!) She-Ra and Evil-Lyn singing "What is This Feeling" (with special guest chorus members!)

'Cause I was tagged by, like, everyone... I think I've done one like this a billion times before, so I'll try and think of new stuff...

Each player of this game starts off with 10 weird things/habits/little known facts about yourself. People who get tagged need to write a blog of their own 10 weird habits/things/little known facts as well as state this rule clearly. At the end you need to choose 10 people to be tagged and list their names. No tagbacks.

1. I'm a serial fanfic starter. I constantly start a fic, write a few pages, decide it's a stupid plot idea, and abandon it. My harddrive is full of unfinished fic. There's a reason I haven't finished a story in 6 years!

2. I'm incredibly unsure of myself. Any time I learn a new skill (especially in a work situation), I get really nervous and shy about doing it myself until I've done it a lot. And this applies to other stuff, too. I tend to think, "Oooh! This is cool! I love it! ...but everyone else would think it sucks." And so it never sees the light of day. :P (see #1 ;))

3. My imagination is like one giant Mary Sue fanfic. :P

4. I love the smell of the "Disintegrator" cleaning solution that we use at the zoo.

5. I like hosing poop off the puffin exhibit at the zoo, because I get such a strong feeling of satisfaction as I watch it all get washed away.

6. Spaghettios with character shapes taste better than the normal-shaped or alphabet ones.

7. I own a copy of the "He-Man and She-Ra Christmas Special" on DVD.

8. As a kid, I was terrified of masks. They scared the bejeezus out of me. Then I grew up and became a costume character. :P

9. I can't stop eating. I'm eating constantly when I'm at home. Even if I'm not hungry, I still walk down to the fridge/cupboard and look through them for something to eat, and I feel restless if I'm not eating.

10. I used to bowl in a league when I was growing up. My highest game ever is a 188... I bowled that on my 11th birthday, and haven't even come close to it since.

Not tagging anyone, 'cause I think just about everyone's already done it. :P

Okay, I'll stop rambling now. I have to be up for a food prep shift at 4:30... I should probably go to bed. :P

Ooooh you were killed...:P I don't know if I'd feel priviledged or offended that a polar bear would wanna eat me.

"You were waiting for the pizza guy to get in the shower?"

*amused*

I felt special. Apparently I looked tasty. :P Blizzard is what we call a Scary Bear. He's by far the most aggressive one, the one always trying to get at us.

Heee! One of the best X-Files scenes EVAR. Hated the rest of the episode, but loved that scene.
"This feels like a scene from Mad About You."
"Yeah, small technicality, Mad About You was about a married couple. We just work together." Riiiight. :P

I so know what you mean. Constantly.

Also, that YouTube video is HILARIOUS! I love She-Ra.

She-Ra is AWESOME. I grew up wanting to be just like her. Or, more than anything, I think I wanted to have Spirit/Swift Wind. :P

It's increadible that you've such close contact with polar bears at the zoo! =)
In our zoo nobody comes into their exhibit, what's about Point Defiance?
Kirsten: Polar Bear[info]xfkirsten on February 19th, 2007 03:17 am (UTC)
I'm so glad they let us interns work with the bears. It's a GREAT chance for large carnivore experience. And they're awesome animals!

It's all protected contact at Point Defiance, too. We don't go in with the bears, and all training is done with a barrier between us and the animal. That being said, though, they can still get at us if we get too close. The den doors have a mesh on them (maybe 7-8cm wide), and the bears can get claws through. So if your hand gets too close, they can still get ahold of you. And we do work in very close proximity to them. The other day I was helping with a training session, placing a target on the mesh from a walkway about 8 feet overhead, and Boris stretched up there and I yanked my hand back just in time.

Oh you get really predatory experience! To be honest I doubt would I help with bears or not.
Kirsten: Polar Bear[info]xfkirsten on February 20th, 2007 06:19 am (UTC)
They're definitely intimidating, but it's fun at the same time. :D

Oh my, theoratically you are dead! I don't know if I find that very scary or pretty cool. I mean, I'm glad that nothing happened, but it's also kinda interesting that this happens at all and that you belong to a "special circle" now.

Your jobs sounds pretty amazing! I remember how sad you were when you lost the job you had before and when you didn't know what would come next. So I hope the encouraging words of so many people that things would sort themselves out and that you'd find a great you'd really love job one day have come true, and that you're happy! :)
Kirsten: Polar Bear[info]xfkirsten on February 19th, 2007 03:18 am (UTC)
I'm really, really glad that this is where I ended up. I'm a firm believer in the idea that everything happens for a reason - what happened was stressful and upsetting, but in the end I think it really helped put me on the path I've always wanted to be on. :)

I want a polar bear to "kill" me!

Dude, and that episode is AWESOME. It makes me squee... Massave squee-age.

You should come intern at Point Defiance, then! ;)

That's always been one of my favorite episodes.
