And we have now crossed the four day mark! As of half an hour ago, we've now gone over four full days without power. The temperature inside the house is down to 47 at the moment (actually up a degree from this afternoon!), although that may drop overnight. I was playing with the flashlight and giggling at the fact that I could see my own breath inside the house. So now I'm back at my friend's place tonight, for more warmth! Still no word on when we'll get power back in our own home. The latest update to Puget Sound Energy's website could put us as either day-to-day or possibly not til Friday or Saturday. Agh! Ah, well, not much we can do but wait...

The mall was definitely jam-packed today. Between the people trying to escape to heat and the people trying to finish up Christmas shopping, it got pretty crazy at times. The grocery store was fully restocked, though! Except still not much in the ready-to-eat hot foods - all they had was a full roast chicken, and I didn't need a whole chicken just for me. :P At least the food court was open, though, so I got some real food! Many supplies here at still tight, though, despite the fact that many areas have power back. My dad said when he went out to get stuff today (batteries, propane, lamp oil, etc) he was told that people were showing up at store opening and buying all their stock by the case. *headdesk*

In happier news, I was SO glad to read last night that Julia Murney and Kendra Kassebaum will be taking over their respective roles in Wicked on Broadway beginning in January! EEEEE! OMG, they both deserve it so much. Fantastic performers, both of them, and I only wish I could go to New York and see them again!

Often Imitated, But Never Duplicated: Cold[info]princeali_m_fan on December 19th, 2006 09:35 am (UTC)
Dude. WTF? That would drive me crazy. Whatever it is inside it has to be the opposite outside. It can't be cold inside and outside. That would confuse my brain D:

Keep warm! Pee a lot for warmth!
Kirsten[info]xfkirsten on December 19th, 2006 09:39 am (UTC)
It's almost warmer when I walk outside, because at least outside there's sun sometimes to warm it up a bit. It just feels WEIRD. :P

Wouldn't peeing only keep me warm if I peed on myself? :P

I'm just glad that I've got most of my own shopping done! :P Only one or two more things left to buy.

I get cold just reading about your house. My house has gotten down in the 50's a couple times, and can't imagine lower. I'd be burning furniture. *LOL*

LOL! Someone on the radio was laughing about doing that. Back in the mid-90s, we had a big snowstorm/icestorm that knocked out power for four days. It got down to about 40 inside the house that time, since it was so cold outside. In fact, the same friends I'm staying with now are the ones that gave us a home that time, too!

I get cold just reading your entries...

You have a grocery store in the mall??
Kirsten[info]xfkirsten on December 19th, 2006 08:42 pm (UTC)
It's a nice and toasty 41 at least outside now! :P

Surprisingly, yes! :P It's a big ol' QFC, right on the end.

Reminds me of the ice storm we had here in Iowa in 93. Although I don't think we had to go quite as long without electricity. But it was longer than we had before. My sister tells me we had a flood the same year and that knocked out electricity and the water treatment place was contaminated so we went without running water for awhile.

It's funny - you never notice how essential electricity is these days until you have to go without it! I have no idea how the pioneers managed it - I'm surprised they didn't all freeze to death. :P We're lucky we have no water problems (besides the fact that it's icy cold) although some people who are using a well had no electricity to pump it.

OMG that totally sucks! Puget Sound Energy sounds just as bad as LIPA (Long Island Power Authority) here!

If you ever come to NY, drop me a line!
Kirsten[info]xfkirsten on December 19th, 2006 08:51 pm (UTC)
Unfortunately, it's not a problem with the power company - there's just that much damage! Add in the fact that many of the transmission lines are up in the mountains, and they had to take snowmobiles in to fix some of it. They've gotten most of the main lines fixed, but now comes the harder and more time-consuming part - they have to go to each individual spot where the power lines in neighborhoods were fixed, and get all of those individually. And with how many trees came down, that's a lot of stops! They're bringing in new crews daily, too, from all over the country. By the end of today, they expect to have almost 500 crews working, and I think PSE only had 150-200 in the beginning.

I would so love to visit NY some time! That's high on my list for an upcoming vacation. I've never been anywhere in the northeast at all, and I'd love to see all the sights in NY, take in a few shows, that kind of thing! If I ever get the chance, I'll definitely let ya know! :)

My company has an office in Bellevue and I guess they were without power from Thursday last week till this morning... they were going to send all their invoices to our office for processing because it's getting close to year end, but since the power came on today they didn't end up doing that.

It was 39 degrees here this morning! Brrr. But at least we have power. :p

Aie I so want to go to NY to see Julia and Kendra together again... they were so awesome!
