OMFG WICKED SQUEEEEEEEE!!
I FINALLY SAW WICKED!!! XD Not that I'm excited about it or anything.
I gotta say, even up in the nosebleed section, that show is So Damn Amazing in person. LOVED it. And there's so many details that just don't come through on a bootleg.
I added a few YouTube links here to videos I've found of this cast, too.
The cast was amazing! Kendra Kassebaum as Glinda TOTALLY stole the whole show. I've never really been a Glinda fan, but she was FREAKIN' HILARIOUS. Move over, Kristin Chenoweth! You have been defeated! *prepares her fortress against the inevitable onslaught from fangirls* I swear, she must have popped an entire bottle of caffeine pills and then washed it down with a couple of Red Bulls before the show. Great comedic timing! Her "Popular" just about had me rolling in the aisles! It leaves you going... "WTF?!?!" but in an absolutely hilarious way. She was SO fond of the little booty shake in that one. This is a vid of her "Popular," but she was even more hyper than that tonight! XD She had so many little quirks that just made the role all her own. And I loved the way she said "Yes I do!" after slapping Elphie. Something about that just cracked me up!
Julia Murney made an awesome Elphaba! I was a bit unsure at first, but once she belted out that last verse in "The Wizard and I" I was hooked. Her voice wasn't quite as powerful as I'd imagined Elphaba's being, but especially in the later songs (once she really sort of deepens her voice) it is perfectly in character. Even in speaking, in the second act her voice is strong and determined (as Elphaba's voice should be at that point) without sounding unnatural. I think she's pwns other Elphabas as far as overall acting goes! (the end of her "Defying Gravity" can be seen here)
Sebastian Arcelus as Fiyero... OMGWTFBBQ. He was HOT. He made one damn sexy Fiyero! Loved his voice! His "Dancing Through Life" was great! I think I still like Norbert Leo Butz better, but Sebastian was close. (The last two pics on this page are him, Julia Murney, and Kendra Kassebaum)
The only complaint I can think of is that there were some parts where the leads were a bit too quiet on the mic. I think the big one was in "What Is This Feeling," the ensemble really sort of drowned out Glinda and Elphaba.
I even got brave afterwards and actually went to the stage door this time! WOOO!! Got my Playbill signed, too! Kendra and Julia were both SO nice. I had my blinky Stargate pen from last year's ComicCon, and when Kendra went to sign she hit the little button that turned it on, and all of a sudden the pen lit up. The confused look on her face was priceless. :P Most people hanging around left after Kendra came out, and only a few of us hung around. I also got it autographed by the guy who played the Wizard. We waited around, and finally Julia came out! She apologized for taking so long because she had to shower and get the green off (seriously, she didn't take that long... half an hour after the curtain dropped, tops?). It was so much fun to watch her interact with a few young girls who were there, because she was being so sweet with them. :D Yaaaaaaay!
I also stopped and bought a Wicked t-shirt, expensive as it was (originally wanted the hooded sweatshirt, but couldn't bring myself to spend $65 on it). But then on the way back to my car, I found a $20 bill on the ground!
OMG, I can't WAIT to see this one again!!! XD
