Oh... my... god. Can I just say how much FUN I had today? I didn't think anything could top last year, but I was wrong.
I got to the convention center shortly before 9 am, and got my badge and all. Made my usual early morning rounds of the freebie table, art show, etc. Right about the time the exhibit hall opened, I met up with
muldy,
chickaboo, and another friend of theirs. At the same time, a guy cosplaying Jack Sparrow walked in, spotted me in my Elizabeth Swann costume, and wanted a photo. WOOO! There was a CUTE little girl watching us that wanted a photo with me, too. She was adorable!
Back into the exhibit hall while the others went on their way... I wandered for a bit before running into
athenaktt and her friend. We wandered a lot more, then headed up to claim our seats for the Simpsons/Bradbury/Stargate panels. The line was INSANE - all the way around to the other side of Ballroom 20!! Lucky for us,
unspokenlonging was on the game and saved us seats.
We finally got into the room about halfway through the Simpsons panel... OMG, the Simpsons movie looks HILARIOUS. They showed a few in-progress clips... Maggie with the bottle, that's all I gotta say. ;)
Ray Bradbury was amazing to see. He was also there with Forry Ackerman and Ray Harryhausen. OMG, it was so cool to see scifi/fantasy legends like that! I gotta say, though, Ray Bradbury calling the middle of the creative process "like sex" was one of the most hilarious things I've ever heard. ;)
After that... STARGATE!! WOO! Gary Jones moderated the panel. He cracked me up! I love him, but at times he went on a little TOO long when he should have been letting the panel run.
SG1: Guests were Chris Judge, Joe Mallozzi, Paul Mullie, and Scifi's VP of original programming. Chris was HILARIOUS. He was on his game! And part way through, Cliff Simon and Robert Picardo showed up as surprise guests! Some of the highlights:
-Chris showing off his abs
-A chick yelling to Chris about why she Tivos Stargate (which the VP said not to do, because it won't count in ratings if it's not watched live): because she's too busy drinking. Chris asked why he was never invited. From where I was, I could only hear snippets, but it was hilarious!
-Chris fondling the arm of the VP everytime a "future of the show" type question came up... and her returning the favor in the end
-Robert Picardo saying he was new to scifi
-A guy at the microphone accidentally said "Star Trek" instead of "Stargate"... the audience laughed and booed, Chris Judge pretended to walk away... and Robert Picardo chipped in: "I'll still talk to you!"
SGA: WOOOOOOOO! OMG, awesomeness!! Almost the entire cast was there, only Jason Momoa was absent. The run-down:
-Paul and David were SO on the ball with the digs at each other! Someone asked right off the bat if McKay would be the "kissing bandit" again this season, and that started a running thing between Paul and David that was HILARIOUS. There were constant digs like "That's not what you said last night!"
-Paul pulled a Scottish flag OUT OF HIS PANTS and threw it into the audience. David's reply? "That was actually from MY pants." ;)
-Someone asked a rambling, geeky question about the ZPMs and power levels that I couldn't begin to follow. (Gary Jones: "GET A LIFE!" ;)) The cast's response? "Torri, why don't you take this one?" LMAO! I don't even remember the answer to this one.
-Audience question: "David Hewlett, how are you so awesome?" *dies* We sent
unspokenlonging up there to the mike to ask that, but someone beat her to it! ;) David's reply: "The post office must love you guys!" He says he must have gotten HUNDREDS of postcards. That was RAD. :P
-We got to see a scene from "A Dog's Breakfast"!! It was SO HILARIOUS! OMG, I need to see that. In the scene, Paul McGillion and Kate Hewlett's characters were watching one of Paul's character's shows on TV (in which he had a dramatic scifi goodbye with a woman played by Rachel Luttrell)... David Hewlett's character, on the other hand, is on the other end of the couch by himself. Paul and Kate announce they have a "surprise" for him, and he says "It can't be worse than the last surprise." They pop up with a tape deck and yell "KARAOKE!" and David replies: "...wrong again." OMG, SO funny!!
-Another audience question was about whether we'd see couples like Weir and Caldwell get together. Torri got a total "WTF?!" look on her face and goes "CALDWELL?!" And all of a sudden Joe turned to her, grabbed her, and TOTALLY PLANTED A HUGE KISS ON HER!! Dipping her and everything. OMG, we went NUTS.
After the mad rush to get out of the panel, we headed down to the SciFi booth to hang out and wait for actors. The first winner? Paul McGillion!! Wooo! We got to him and got photos!! He was joking that it was SO hot in there (it was REALLY hot in the exhibit hall, as always, and 90 degrees outside) and that we would be telling people he was "that sweaty guy in the picture." :p
A few minutes later... OMFG TORRI!! I spotted her on the other side of the booth and made a made dash. Dear lord, that woman is a sweetheart! The security guy was kinda driving her away from the booth, but she was SO gracious about taking photos with people! When
chickaboo gave her a glass dolphin, she TOTALLY did the dolphin noise! I was literally squeeing and bouncing up and down and being a total dork. And I got a picture with her!! I HUGGED TORRI!!!! *dies* I told her that her GW fans said hi, and she told me to give everyone her love! She asked which one I was, and I told her XFKirsten (the girl who loved the fart jokes). Sadly, we didn't get to finish the conversation because the security guy was hustling her away. :'( I almost didn't get a pic even, but she told him that she'd promised me a pic so she stuck around. :D EEEEEEEEEEEE!!
Rachel Luttrell and Chris Judge were signing at the booth next door, but I didn't get around to meeting them. We also saw Joe Flanagan run by, but he had one of his kids in tow (or rather, his son had HIM in tow) so he didn't stop for pics or anything, which is understandable.
Back out to the lobby for a Starbucks stop, and I ran into
sana_chan and
richiied! They said that the PotC 3 trailer was apparently aired at the Disney panel, but I was down hugging the Stargate cast during that panel so I missed it. I'm sure it'll turn up online soon, though!
After Starbucks, we headed back into the exhibit hall. Garrett Wang (Ensign Kim from Star Trek Voyager) was signing near the SciFi booth... he's grow his hair out long - it looks really different! A bit more wandering around the exhibit hall and a stop to chat with some of the SG-Command.net folks! They remembered me! I was surprised at that, 'cause I haven't posted much there lately and I've only met them a few times. That was really neat, though! :)
Headed out after that, 'cause the con was about to close. Unfortunately, I'd thought I lost my phone in the Stargate panel, and was bummed when lost and found didn't have it. But I got home, took off my boots, and OMFG it was in my boot. I just about died laughing!
Best. ComicCon. Ever. Pics for the day are up here. The vast majority are from the Stargate panel. :) When I get the chance, I'll add captions. :P
EDIT: my bandwidth for the month is almost gone, so if you can't get to that photo site, Abydos Gate also has a gallery of my photos here. :)
