So my refrigerator decided to antagonize me all night with LOUD buzzing sounds all night, happening every 5 minutes like clockwork. By about 4 am, I was trying to creatively wrap my comforter around my head without suffocating myself. And I was up again at 7:30. GRR.
Anyways, I went back to SeaWorld today with my family! Believe was about to start when we got there, so we went and saw that. It ran a bit more smoothly than yesterday - tightened up a bit, and the video was working right this time. But I'm still not any more impressed with it, and my family certainly wasn't. As my mom noted, too much droning on by the trainers and the video, and not enough whales. But Kalia was in it this time, and that made me happy. She is teh cuteness! But I realized another one of my complaints: too many damn ads at the start. It seems to take FOREVER for the show to get going, with the little "salute" and "wildlife conservation fund" ads at the start.
After Believe was over... CIRQUE TIME! We made it over to Cirque Stadium in great time. And YAY for friends working! It was great to catch up some more! We got awesome seats, too. And for a first soft opening show, I think it went really well. I can't speak to the specifics of choreography, but it LOOKED good based on what I know of last year's choreography. Only two big things I saw that went wrong were the sprites PWC dying during preshow (and someone having to bring the un-painted one to hand-to-hand, then be brought back to the island in the Caribe), and one pyro effect not going off (which isn't out of the ordinary as pyro on the T-dock tends to get wet easily). Loved the new hand-to-hand team - they seemed more dance and acrobat oriented, as opposed to strength and balance stuff. But they were great! It was also fun to try and pick out faces that I knew from last summer. My parents were amused that I could recognize people while they were in costume, but you'd be surprised how easy that is after awhile. Oh, and I loved the two sprites they had today - no one I recognized, but they were great and very energetic. :)
Over the rest of the day we managed to get done all the big stuff. Saw Pets Rule - oh, man, Baby was HYPER in the Lester segment. We also did JTA - we made mom and dad sit in the front and get soaked. And can I say how GHETTO that ride has gotten? You'd never know it's only two years old. There's no doors on the elevator anymore, and for awhile we were looking into the bare work bay and watching the elevators go up and down. And the "flood" effect is gone. The dolphin video in the elevator looked crappy. Bad show all around. We also finally saw Haunted Lighthouse. DUDE. Weird Al gets 3-D love! And the ghost girl was totally Lilo! Pretty crappy movie, but it was fun going "Hey! That's so-and-so!" That was pretty much it, other than a couple of random stops at exhibits.
Lots of SeaWorld photos for the day, up here! Mostly Cirque, with some Believe.
I got SO freakin' sunburned today, though. Right around my hairline, it hurts like hell. Doh! And I also spent the afternoon playing phone tag with the maintenance guy, who called me to say "yep, your fridge is dead." Thank you, Captain Obvious! :P He was nice about it, though, and offered to let me keep stuff in a fridge in a vacant apartment, but I don't have much perishable stuff (the ice cream was already a lost cause) so I didn't bother. Unfortunately, since it's a long weekend, it'll be at least Tuesday before someone can come out to repair it. Ah, well, I'll learn to love the warm Coke.
Came home for an hour or so, then we all headed out to see X-Men 3. First of all, we walked into the theater only to hear "The Wizard and I" playing. WOO! And the last song they played before the movie started? "For Good." Waiting for the movie was Wicked love. I would also like to point out that no one batted an eyelash at any of the previews (including PotC 2)... until Snakes on a Plane, which got much clapping and cheering. :P
As for the movie itself? Loved it! (SPOILER WARNING) I don't know much about the original Phoenix storyline in the comics, but I love how they played it out in the movie! It was fun to see how Jean sort of battled with herself for so much of the time. Great effects - I really loved the big battle. And what an emotional way to end it! I also loved that last shot of Magneto, where you just see the chess piece twitch ever so slightly. And much thanks to
kasatka for the heads-up on the stuff after the credits - that's a pretty critical scene to the overall storyline. ;) Oh, and Leech was totally little!Orlin from SG-1. That made me giggle.
Been working on costumes a bit. Almost finished with the Elphie dress - it was surprisingly easy! I just have to add the collar and buttons, hem the skirt, and clean up some of the seams. Oh, and a question for anyone else who does sewing - does anyone know if any of those sealants that prevent fraying really work? The fabric I'm using for the skirt frays really easily.
And since it's effectively dead anyways, I took great joy in pulling the plug on my fridge and silencing the obnoxious buzzing.
