I smell like doggy. Heehee! Gemma (the 12-week-old puppy) was back today at the Wolf Center, bouncing around and climbing on me while I tried to work. While I was working in the office, I was sitting on the floor while I cut inserts and put them into brochures. Gemma came bounding in and jumped all over me and licked my chin. She's such a cutie, but she's a total attention whore. She also liked to tug and chew on my shirt sleeves, pant legs, hiking boots, and occasionally my hand. And when she accidentally figured out the zipper on my fleece pullover, there was no end to the hilarity. :P In between picking up Gemma and trying to move her out of my lap, I somehow managed to get work done!

The girls (remember our little Mexican jumping beans? :P) were out running around when I got there. Oh lordy, they're so pretty. I also shadowed the manager while she did an education program and tour for junior high kids, so I can learn how the programs work. One of our wolves was howling today - yay! The males and females are separated right now because the females are in heat and we don't want pups this year. So one of the males was standing at the fence, staring at the females and howling. He just wanted some booty! ;) I absolutely LOVE that sound, though. So hauntingly beautiful. If anyone comes across a nature CD of wolf howls, let me know! :D

There was some patchy snow up there, too! That made me so happy. It was pretty much confined to the shade and north-facing slopes (since they don't get sun) but it was still cool to see.

And 'cause I've been reading Atlantis fanfic all evening, here's a few recs:
So Serious It's short. Just read it. :P
Tease That ending - squeeee!
Marshmallow as Metaphor The Sparky cuteness is overwhelming! XD

I got all the dogs in the neighborhood howling once...

I would LOVE to work at the wolf center here, but they won't take volunteers... buttheads.
Kirsten[info]xfkirsten on February 24th, 2006 04:15 pm (UTC)
That sucks! :( I'm surprised they don't need volunteers at least somewhere at the facility.

Oh here's a fun little toy =D

http://jnewland.com/articles/2006/02/22/how-to-subscribe-to-tv-shows-using-the-democracy-player-bittorrent-rss

Download The Democracy Player and follow the instructions on the bottom of that page to add any tv show to an automatic download list whenever a new episode comes out... just gotta get a nice little feed link and add it as a channel in democracy player. =D
Alike so with the following feeds I did for myself. =D

The Daily Show - http://feeds.feedburner.com/tvrss/tnfC
Famliy Guy - http://feeds.feedburner.com/tvrss/kHYJ
Stargate SG-1 - http://feeds.feedburner.com/tvrss/sFjA
Stargate Atlantis - http://feeds.feedburner.com/tvrss/OguQ

Auto-downloads the new episode whenever it goes up(you can set how often it checks, i.e. each hour) and so if it goes up while you're sleeping it's already downloaded when you wake up =D

I am, very! They're absoultely gorgeous. And I come home at the end of the day feeling so good, because I know how much volunteer help is needed there (they only have 2 paid staff, the rest are volunteers) and so I know that I'm doing something really good to help educate people about these animals ad protect them. :)
this and that...[info]alyssa22 on February 24th, 2006 07:33 pm (UTC)
I'm always impressed with people who volunteer to help animals. Did I tell you I did a tour of the Sea Shepherd boat when it was in Melbourne? Amazing. Those people (all of them!) are unpaid. They give up a year of their life to go and fight against whale culls and seal clubbing. The people on the boat also live on a vegan diet, which impresses me. I soooo want to be vegan. I'm vegetarian, but I have a problem giving up icecream and cheese.... though some of the soy varieties are nice!

I have the utmost respect for them. They give up so much to help marine life. I may not agree with their stances 100%, but I can't help but respect the strength of their beliefs, and their ability to practice what they preach, despite the opposition.
